ELYRIA — A large rock thrown at the window of an Elyria home late Saturday night narrowly missed a newborn baby lying on the floor.
The incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. when police were called to the 500 block of Second Street where a man and woman told officers they heard a window shatter in the living room and ran into the room to see what had happened.
A 47-year-old male living at the address said he looked out a window and saw a North Ridgeville woman he knew backing a car out of the driveway.
The woman at the residence ran into the street to try and stop the female driver from getting away but was unable to force the vehicle to stop.
The large rock tossed through the window had been taken from the front yard of the home, police said.
The rock landed just a few feet from a month-old baby lying on the living room floor, reports said.
The infant was reportedly not injured, police said.
A bank credit card belonging to the woman driver was found on the ground outside after she left.
Neighbors told police a white Jeep pulled up in front of the home and a female got out who resembled a woman who had been involved in an earlier altercation with the residents.
The woman began yelling about her car being damaged, police said, and walked to the front porch where she threw something into the living room window, police said.
A female witness said the Jeep was the same vehicle that was left in the driveway of the home after the earlier incident.
Both witnesses identified a photo of the female suspect.
The man living in the home signed charges for criminal damaging, which police said would be regarded a first-degree misdemeanor to the potential harm the thrown rock posed to the infant.
When police questioned the suspect, she told them she was driven to the residence in another vehicle to pick up her Jeep but left after being frightened by an unknown man she saw on the porch of the home.
The woman, who said she was an ex-police officer, denied throwing the rock.
