ELYRIA — An Elyria pizza shop was damaged in a fire early this morning, according to the Fire Department.
Firefighters were called to 427 Cleveland St., which is Cozzeria Pizzeria, at 5:20 a.m.
Assistant Chief Tim Mitchell said the fire was reported by the manager at the nearby Convenient Food Mart.
When firefighters arrived, the fire was mostly out but there was still a lot of smoke, Mitchell said. He added that the cause of the fire is under investigation, but that it seemed to originate from a pile of dish towels and aprons that had just been laundered.
Mitchell estimated damage at $100,000 to the building and $15,000 to its contents.
The Health Department was called in, which is protocol anytime there's a fire at a restaurant, Mitchell said.
