UPDATE: Resident rescued from Sheffield Lake house fire

SHEFFIELD LAKE -- A man was rescued from his home after a fire broke out early Wednesday.

A neighbor called 911 at about 7:30 a.m. to report a fire at 324 Thelma Drive, according to Sheffield Lake Fire Chief Tim Card.

When firefighters arrived at the house, the living room was ablaze. Firefighters entered the home and found the male resident sitting in his bedroom. He was taken to EMHElyriaMedicalCenter, Card said.

The resident’s identity was not available, but Card said the man was conscious before being transported.

Card said the fire was under control by 7:44 a.m., and declared out at 8:01 a.m. Fire crews remained on scene until 12:45 p.m.

The one-story ranch house suffered heavy interior and exterior damage.

Multiple departments responded, including Sheffield Lake, Sheffield Village, Avon, Avon Lake and Elyria Township fire departments.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The state Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting with the investigation.
