Friends of Wellington Community Auditorium Project did not meet its deadline to raise $2.5 million for a community auditorium by the end of this month, but Wellington Schools Superintendent John Nolan said they will still have time to raise the remaining funds.
On Thursday, the group was $109,000 short of its goal. Nolan said, because the community is just shy of $2.5 million, the Ohio School Facilities Commission is extending the deadline to March 3.
Now, the community will continue working to contact donors and alumni to reach its goal.
If built, the auditorium will be constructed adjacent to the new middle school, which is opening in 2015.
The middle school project does not include plans to replace the community’s auditorium, so the community, headed by the Friends of Wellington Community Auditorium group, came together to raise the funds for its construction.
Many Wellington residents have spoken in favor of rebuilding the auditorium, which is used for school events, community plays and concerts.
