Mrs. Marcella S. "Marcy" Cornell (nee Verhoff), 89, of Elyria, died Thursday, June 14, 2007 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain following a long illness. She was born February 17, 1918 in Owasso, MI and lived in Elyria for most of her life until moving to Lake Fox Village in Winter Haven, FL in 1985. She returned to Elyria in 2007.
She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria and St. Matthew Catholic Church in Winter Haven.
She was a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Jude and a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Mrs. Cornell enjoyed playing bridge, and bingo, as well as crocheting, gardening, and reading. She was an avid bowler, having bowled a high game of 222. She also enjoyed watching TV game shows.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra A. Smith of Elyria, Linda M. Valdes of Lakewood, CO, Janice K. Cornell of San Francisco, CA, and Debra J. Cornell of Lorain; sons, Randolph R. Cornell of Chattanooga, TN. and Bruce T. Cornell of Littleton, CO; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; brothers, Alfred E. Verhoff of Dade City, FL, and Benedict L. Verhoff of Hemet, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Richard in 1991; parents, Benedict and Teresa (nee Rahrig) Verhoff; sisters, Louise DeJohn, Helen Donovan, and Armella Ross; brothers, Wilfred "Bud" Verhoff, and Benedict Verhoff (at birth); and a grandson, Steven Cornell.
There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held Friday at 11 A.M. in the chapel at St. Jude Catholic Church, 590 Poplar St., Elyria. The Rev. Frank P. Kosem, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Church Building Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, Elyria.
