John L. Gulish, 73, a resident of Henrietta Township, passed
away Saturday, June 30, 2007 at his home following a brief illness. He was born June 4, 1934 in Soldier, PA. John had been a resident of Henrietta Township for the last twenty-eight years, coming from Lorain. He served with the US Army during peace time and then transferred to the US
Army Reserves. John was employed with the former U.S. Steel in Lorain in the Three Seamless Mill for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1996. During his service time, 1957 to 1959, he played football, softball, and baseball. His hobbies included baseball, softball, hunting, fishing, gardening, and hockey.
Survivors include his wife of forty-six years, Rita Ann Gulish (nee Farkosh); his sons, Andrew Gulish of Oberlin and John Gulish of Vermilion; his daughters, Noreen Hennes of Vermilion and Janet Hercules of Barberton; six
grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and his sisters, Shirley Jurcak of Elyria, Virginia Zbeig of DuBois, PA, and Patricia Hiles of Parma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Kathryn Gulish (nee: Mehok); and his brother, Lawrence Gulish.
Friends may call Monday, July 2, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, with a Christian Wake Service at 7:30 P.M. Closing prayers will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at 10:15 A.M. at the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 A.M. from Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 333 South Lake St., South Amherst. John's nephew, The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Jurcak, associate pastor of St. John's Cathedral in Cleveland, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst, with the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard performing honors.
