James Edgar Fuqua, Sr., 79, of Lorain, died Tuesday morning, July 3, 2007, in Amherst Manor in Amherst, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Fuqua was born August 8, 1927 in Nashville TN, and had lived in the Lorain area since 1968. He was a member of Second Baptist Church of Lorain, where he served as a Deacon and Treasurer of the church. He was a Mason, and a member of the Masonic Temple in Sandusky. He worked as an insurance agent for United Insurance Company for 41 years, from 1955 until his retirement in 1996. He was a Life and Qualifying member of the Million Dollar Roundtable and he also had qualified for 32 Presidential Club Trips. He enjoyed puzzles, barbecues, sports, and going to watch the Cleveland Indians. He played on the on Rockets Baseball Team in Sandusky.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Polla Etta Fuqua (nee Winters) of Lorain; son, James E. (Yma M.) Fuqua Jr. of Cleveland; daughters, Brenda (Harvey) Washington of Canton MI, Sondra Diane (Jerome) Williams of Lorain, and Candice (David) Williams of Loganville GA; 5 grandsons and 26 great-grandchildren; brother Lawrence Fuqua of Sandusky; step-brother, Paul Deadrick and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Mr. Fuqua was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel James Fuqua (1991) and Jessie Mary Fuqua (nee Creel).
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 7, 2007, from 10 A.M. until time of Services at 12 noon at Cathedral of Praise, 4545 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Elder Melvin Brown, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
