Lucy Spraggins (nee Mastin), 91, of Lorain, passed away Monday, July 9, 2007, at her residence following a short illness. Mrs. Spraggins was born September 3, 1915, in Huntsville, AL and had lived in the Lorain area since 1946.
She was a founding member of New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Lorain, which was founded by her late husband, The Rev. Cornelius Spraggins, on January 1, 1950. There she served as Mother and First Lady of the church and had served as president of the Missionary Society. She also had served on the Mothers Board and the Ladies Auxiliary. She formerly sang in the Senior Choir and served on the kitchen committee.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed church, reading the bible, and family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, singing, and mentoring young ladies.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Ella "Peggy" Morgan, Katherine "Nottie" Walden of Lorain, Margaret Ann Adams of Cleveland; sons, John and Sam Spraggins of Lorain, and Darnell Spraggins of Elyria; sister, Dovie Broughsville of Lorain; 25 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Mrs. Spraggins was preceded in death by her husband, The Rev. Cornelius Spraggins (2001); daughter, Rose Holley (2005); parents, Will Mastin and Alice Mastin (nee Douglas); six brothers; Will, Harvey, Herbert, John, Aaron, and
Frank Mastin; five sisters: Mary Lewis, Rosie Broughsville, Cora Patton, Alice Eason, and Viola Battle.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 13, 2007, from 6 to 9 P.M. at New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, 865 Reid Ave., Lorain.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, 11 A.M. at the church. Her grandson, The Rev. Tyrone Holley, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain. Arrangements by Brown-Robinson Funeral Home, Lorain.
