Charles A. Zink, 85, of Lorain, passed away Monday, September 24, 2007 in his home. He was born April 18, 1922 in Amherst, and remained a life long resident of Lorain County.
He served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945, including service during WW II in the South Pacific and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater on the USS Virgo AKA-20. Zink received the Asiatic Pacific Medal with four stars, the Victory Medal, the American Area Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was married April 22, 1946 to his wife of 40 years, Rosemary O’Doherty. He worked in the insurance industry and in 1955, Zink became the first State Farm agent in the Lorain area. He continued to work as an agent in the area until 1985, when he retired with 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, a life member of the Knights of Columbus, and enjoyed golfing, camping, family gatherings and cribbage.
Survivors include sons, Jack, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Patrick of San Antonio, TX, Edward of Huber Heights, and Jefferey of South Amherst; daughters, MaryAnn Rivera of Lorain and Carol Bruening of Lorain; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Rosemary Zink (nee O’Doherty); parents, George and Helena Zink (nee Thesing); brothers, Edward and Raymond; and sisters, Alberta Zink, Helen Fuhrman, Theresa Paterson, and Colletta Zink.
Friends will be received Wednesday, September 26, 2007. from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. at Reidy-Scanlan-Chambers Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway Ave., Lorain, and 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. Thursday, September 27, 2007, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 310 8th St., Lorain. A Mass will follow at 11:30 A.M. Father Daniel Divis, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, with full military honors conducted by the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter No. 20.
