Erma M. Grobe (nee Youngeberg), died Monday, November 19, 2007, following a long illness.
Born in LaGrange, May 3, 1921, she had been a resident of Lorain County all her life.Â Before her illness, Erma was active at the Grobe Fruit Farm family-owned business in establishing the third generation of business.
As a young girl, her hobby was showing horses at the Lorain County Fair and she was "the first girl" to win Horse Showmanship with "Lady" in 1935. She was given the crown of Queen of Lorain County Fair in 1936. Erma attended St. John Lutheran School and graduated from Elyria High School in 1939.
She was a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church in Elyria and was a member of St. John Ladies Aid. She enjoyed baking pies, working outdoors and word puzzles.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet Babich (Robert) of Amherst; her daughter-in-law, Annette Grobe; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1999, to whom she was married 59 years; son, James in 1997; a brother, Norman in 1967; and parents, William and Mary (Boskie) Youngeberg.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral Services will be at 11 A.M. Friday, November 23, 2007, at St. John Lutheran Church, 1140 West River Road, Elyria, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Pastor Von Berlin will officiate.
Burial will be in North Murray Ridge Cemetery.Â The family suggests memorial contributions may be sent to St. John Lutheran Church.
