Jerry was born September 28, 1933 and raised in North Ridgeville, graduating from Ridgeville High School in 1952. He served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. Jerry received an Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cleveland State University (formerly Fenn College). Amherst Township has been his home for the last 54 years.
Jerry worked for Moen as a designer/checker in the engineering department for 25 years and received two patents for shower heads. He retired in 1995. He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst for 54 years, where he was very active as a Eucharistic Minister for Masses and the homebound. Jerry served as a treasurer for the Vincentians and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed listening and dancing to polka music, bowling and caring for his lawn. He was an avid Browns, Indians, and OSU fan. Jerry found his greatest joy spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Marilyn (nee O'Dor); sons, Jeff Scheidler and his wife, Nancy of Stow, Gary Scheidler and his wife, Kathi of Wellington, Dean Scheidler and his wife, Julie of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Thom Scheidler and his wife, Jenny of Amherst Township; daughters, Jane Gies and her husband, Ron of San Ramon, California, Donna Vinolus "dj" and her husband, Athan of Beavercreek, Ohio, Debbie Cowger and her husband, Ed of Amherst; grandchildren, Joshua Scheidler, Justin Scheidler, Nicole Scheidler, Marissa Scheidler, Andrew Gies, Matthew Gies, Maggie Gies, Lauren Scheidler, Connor Scheidler, Alexander Vinolus, Nicholas Vinolus, Emily Cowger; brother, Bernie Scheidler and his wife, Gloria of Stow; sisters, Lois Woodward of Harborcreek, Pennsylvania, Terry Roof and her husband, Doug of Brecksville, Marge Grguric and her husband, Bob of The Villages, Florida, Marti Vagi and her husband, Bob of Broadview Hts.; sisters-in-law, Charlotte and Bev Scheidler of Elyria.
Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford Scheidler and Dale Scheidler; and his parents, Arthur and Hilda Scheidler (nee Myers).
Friends may call Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 P.M., at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 3, 2013, 10 A.M., at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.
