George served in the United States Air Force for 11 years and received an honorable discharge in 1972. He received his B.A. Degree in Political Science from Cleveland State University. He taught in the public service department of Lorain County Community College from 1973-2011. George was an engineer at U.S. Steel for 10 years and was later employed with Nordson Corp., retiring after 22 years of service in 2009.
He was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church where he served on the vestery, building and grounds and sang in the choir. George enjoyed jazz and blues and was a member of the band Dupree, where he played saxophone and was instrumental in starting the Labor Day Jazz Festival. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Gwendolyn (nee Miller); sons, Christopher, Eric (Erica) and Jonathan (Jenna), all of Valparaiso, Indiana; daughters, Allison Harris (Jemel) of Cleveland and Tilisha of Valparaiso, Indiana; brother, Douglas of Augusta, Georgia; sister, Joi of Atlanta, Georgia; special nephew, David Wright; 13 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Wyoline Frazier; step mother, Deborah Frazier; and sister, Trilbye.
The family would like to thank Cleveland Clinic Hospice, the Holt family, Horace Jacocks and members of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church for there prayers and support.
Friends will be received Friday, April 5, 2013 from 5 to 8 P.M. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11 A.M. in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 300 3rd Street, Elyria. The Reverend Melanie Sunderland will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery.
