Deanna L. Hill (nee Kessell), 69, of North Ridgeville, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013, at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake, following a two year illness. She was born in Lakewood on February 15, 1944 and was a life-long resident of North Ridgeville.
She graduated from North Ridgeville High School in 1962, received her Bachelor’s Degree from Baldwin-Wallace University in Berea and her Master’s Degree from Akron University. Mrs. Hill served as the mayor of North Ridgeville for two terms from 1996 to 2003. Immediately before running for mayor, she was the District Director for then U.S. Representative Sherrod Brown. Prior to that, she taught math for 26 years at North Ridgeville High School, where she served as president of the local teacher’s union. From 2006 until the time she retired in 2011, she was the Director of Economic Development for the Lorain County Auditor’s Office. Mrs. Hill was a member of the Ohio Council of Mayor’s. She enjoyed embroidery, world travel and spending time with her family, especially her grandsons.
She is survived by one daughter, Tracy Hill of Neskowin, Oregon; one son, Bill Hill (Maartje) of Troutdale, Oregon; two grandsons, Boaz and Kian Hill; four sisters, Barbara McCarthy (Tony Rado) of North Ridgeville, Karen Kessell of Mason, Betty Jane Davis of Mason and Patricia Fowler (Roger) of New London; and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Betty (nee Polvoorde) Kessell.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 P.M., Friday, May 31, 2013, at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Road (at Stoney Ridge Road), North Ridgeville. The funeral service will be Saturday June 1, 2013, 11:30 A.M., at the funeral home. Reverend Chuck Behrens will officiate. Burial will be at Fields Cemetery in North Ridgeville.
The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to either The Gathering Place, 800 Sharon Dr., Westlake, OH 44145 or to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110.
