Rosalia Fabian Dengel Matula fell asleep in God's hands, Monday, June 10, 2013, at home, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born May 1, 1925 in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, the daughter of Rozalia Ocsko and Lajos Fabian.
Rosalia lost her father at age four, and her mother at age 16, and then was engulfed by WWII. She met and married a handsome, young soldier named Friedrich (Fritz) Dengel, after a short wartime romance. They fled Hungary as the Soviets advanced, heading West into Austria, settling in Mattighofen, North of Salzburg. There, they were blessed with two children.
Looking for opportunity, the family came to this country in 1956 and made their home in Cleveland, with the sponsorship of members of the W. 104th St. German Lutheran Church and most specifically, Mrs. Petri.
She moved to the Table Rock Lake area of Missouri in 1976 after marrying Frank Matula. Too energetic to retire, Rosie opened a greenhouse/curio shop, where she thoroughly enjoyed growing or buying and selling her two favorites, plants and dolls. And she finally had room for all the kitties and dogs her heart could love!
Her grandchildren were a source of joy and pride throughout her life. Three out of five are medical doctors, another a lawyer, and one inherited Rosie's entrepreneurial spirit, now training in sales. Rosie dearly loved God all her life. She was always active in church and community service, sacrificing to provide needed funds or volunteering at the local community center. She was a wonderful example of a trusting child of God and left her family with the peace that passes understanding.
She is survived by her daughter, Marika Dengel Esham, R.N. and son-in-law, William T. Esham, M.D. of Portsmouth; her son, Friedrich H. Dengel, M.D. and daughter-in-law, Polly Dengel, M.D.; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
A private service will be held Thursday, June 13, 2013, and an open Memorial Service Saturday, June 15, 2013, at The Community for Better Living, 7074 Columbia Rd., Olmsted Township, at 2 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made, in Rosie's name, to Christ Our Righteousness Seventh-day Adventist Church, c/o Treasurer, 18950 Rockcliff Dr., Rocky River, OH 44116.
