Ethel M. Matus, 81, of Camden Township, died Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk. She was born February 18, 1932 in Elyria Township and lived in Camden Township the majority of her life.
She was a graduate of Elyria High School. Ethel retired from Green Circle Growers after 19 years of service. She was a past member of the Lorain Slovak Club, and an active member of St. Mary's Church in Wakeman, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. Ethel took pride in growing her own vegetables and flower gardening. She was a huge fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers. She was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed decorating her home for each season. Family events were very important to her. Ethel prepared delicious holiday meals from scratch, baked many ethnic pastries and loved attending her grandchildren's sporting events. She also loved to crochet and work large puzzles.
She is survived by her children; son, Edward (Coral) Matus, of Millbury, Ohio, daughters, Nancy (Greg) Worcester of Elyria, Peggy (Tony) Shamblin of Wakeman, Sally (Bernie) Gadomski of Wakeman, and Molly (Kim) Meyers, of Wellington; 13 grandchildren; Brian (Kelsey) and Tim (Kristina) Gadomski, Michael, Sarah and Rebecca Shamblin, Brooke and Todd Worcester, Madeline, Vincent, and Meredith Meyers, Alexandra, Lyndsey, and Brent Matus, great-granddaughters Melina Worcester, and Skylar and Gabrielle Gadomski; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Edward; her parents, Martin and Pauline (Baran) Turon; brothers, Albert, Martin, and Edward Turon; and sisters, Mary Nalepka, Catherine Papajcik, Helen Kurish, Bernice Turon, and Janet Squires.
Friends may call Monday October 7, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M., at the Morman Funeral Home, 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman. A Scripture Service will be held Monday at 8:45 P.M., at the funeral home. Tuesday, October 8, 2013, there will be a Prayer Service at 9:30 A.M., at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M., at St. Mary's Church on Main Street in Wakeman. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
