He was employed by the Lorain County Sherrif Dept. as a Lieutenant since 1959 and retired after 25 years of service. He was a graduate from St. Ignatius High School, Cleveland, Class of 1950. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict from 1950 - 1952, receiving the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Medal. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Avon Lake, a member and past president of the FOP Lodge #54 of Lorain County, a member of Greater Cleveland Police Emerald Society, member of Marine Corps League, and American Legion Post #211 of Avon Lake. He enjoyed reading and was an avid fan of the Browns, Indians, and the Avon Lake Shoremen.
He is survived by one daughter, Amy Miller of Avon Lake; one son, Michael (Kristy) of Avon; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Thomas "Tim" (Mary) Bulger of Lakewood.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise (nee Kelling) in 2011, to whom he had been married 58 years. Friends will be received Sunday, December 22, 2013, 3 until 7 P.M., at the Misencik Funeral Home, 36363 Detroit Road, Avon, where closing prayers will be Monday, December 23, 2013, 9:30 A.M., followed by a 10 A.M. Mass at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Avon. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, where the U.S. Marine Corps will conduct military honors.
