Raymond A. Smith, 73, of Grafton, passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 9, 2014. Raymond was born January 11, 1941 in Weston, West Virginia. He was a resident of Grafton for more than 40 years, where he and his wife of 51 years, Joyce, raised their family.
Raymond was a member of the Grafton Baptist Church and enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, spending time with his family, working in the yard and being outdoors with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. As a young man in Weston, he worked at the Colonial Glass Factory until moving to Ohio. Ray worked for Timms Spring Mfg. in Elyria for 32 years until his retirement in 2004. After taking a few years off for retirement, he went to work for Midview Schools for three years. He currently worked at Whirlaway Mfg. in Wellington. He will be greatly missed by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (nee Carson); sons, Raymond (Tammy) Smith of Grafton, Randy (Becky) Smith of Elyria; brothers, Darrell Smith of Jackson, Larry (Linda) Smith of LaGrange and Jimmy (Sharon) Smith of Grafton; survivors also include five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Marguerite Smith; sister, Janet Moss; and by his brother, Clarence D. Smith. Friends may call in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton, Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Funeral services will be Friday, June 13, 2014 at 11 A.M. in the Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, 39888 Parsons Rd., Grafton, with Pastor Joe Dossa officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the funeral home.
