Elyria Catholic and Ohio State grad Matt Wilhelm made his first career start at inside linebacker for the Chargers on Sunday, and recovered a fumble that set up a touchdown in San Diego’s 14-3 win over Chicago.
The 6-foot-4, 245-pounder also had four solo tackles and an assist.
An all-state star for the EC Panthers, Wilhelm is in his fifth season with the Chargers. Prior to 2007 he had split time as a reserve linebacker and a special teamer.
The Chargers signed Wilhelm to a five-year contract extension in December.
